3.0 The Future of Underground Utility Protection

Terra Shield™ Electronic Protection Barrier

Image descriptionUtilizing sensors on the Terra Shield driver and the excavator boom & stick an electronic exclusion zone is created. This prevents penetration of the Terra Shield into a zone predetermined by the utility owner. If the sensors indicate penetration into the exclusion zone the driver is immediately shut down. The in cab LED display provides the operator with a virtual image of the Terra Shield installation.

4.0 Process

Terra Shield™ is inserted under the existing conduit by either a static or dynamic installation tool.

Image description

Upon installation of the Terra Shield, trusses are installed the length of the intended excavation. Patented threaded J rods are then used to connect the Terra Shield to the trusses. Nuts on the J rods are tightened to compress a load under the conduit and prevent movement during the excavation process. Image descriptionThe Terra Shield System not only supports the conduit, but its 1/2" thick barrier acts as a protective shield against accidental contact with the conduit while work is performed below.

After work is completed the Terra Shield is left in place and the J rods & trusses are removed for future projects. The Terra Shield will remain for future uses. Image description

5.0 Terra Shield™ Drivers

There are two types of drivers for Terra Shield.

Image description#1 Vibratory Driver. With drive forces from 15 to 60 tons for Terra Shield installations in virtually any soil conditions.

#2 Static Driver. Utilizing 50 tons of hydraulic force to push the Terra Shield in highly sensitive areas with concerns for soil movement and fragile conduit. With this method there is virtually no soil movement.

Tested!

Terra Shield™ provides protection and access under existing utilities without exposure or deterioration of the utility conduit.

This innovative process has no less than 7 patents pending on procedure, product and installation.
